The South African Men’s Indoor Hockey Team recently held a training camp at St Anne’s Diocesan College in preparation for the Indoor World Cup which will be played in Berlin in February. Mr Robin Jones, newly-appointed staff member at St Anne’s and a member of the SA Team, explained that the Sports Centre offered the team an ideal playing surface as it is of a similar quality to the surfaces that they will play on at the World Cup.The girls had the opportunity to watch the national training sessions and interact with the SA Indoor Team. Nine members of the Indoor side, who are also involved in the SA Outdoor setup, were able to pass on valuable feedback to the St Anne’s players.
The visitors, who were on campus during the 1st Team and u16 Trials, umpired and coached the girls during their matches. They ran a general skills clinic and the goalkeepers benefited from a specialised session with our 2 national keepers.
