Upcoming Open Midlands Garden - Sat 10 & Sun 11 October. Located at Manor Hall in Hilton, this semi-formal garden owned by Vinnie Jones and Kathy Jacob combines structure and sustainability within a thoughtfully designed residential landscape.
Clipped box hedges and defined garden walls create a strong architectural framework, softened by a mix of indigenous and non-indigenous plantings that bring seasonal colour and contrast throughout the garden. A traditional croquet lawn provides an elegant focal point, complemented by a peaceful garden pond and a selection of feature pots that add interest and character to key spaces.
Sustainability is a central theme of the garden’s design. A former swimming pool has been converted into an underground storage tank, forming part of an integrated water harvesting system that collects runoff from gutters and greywater for use in the garden’s sprinkler system. In addition, a separate rainwater harvesting tank collects water from the garage roof, supplying domestic use and further reducing reliance on municipal water.
A small greenhouse supports year-round vegetable production, reflecting a practical and productive approach within the ornamental setting. Together, these elements create a garden that is both visually structured and environmentally conscious.
Free refreshments will be available for visitors during open garden days.
