X-rays vs CT Scans – What’s the Difference, and When Do We Use Them?
At Hilton Vet, we’re proud to offer both digital radiographs (X-rays) and CT (computed tomography) imaging—but how do we choose which is best for your pet?
X-rays are quick, non-invasive, and great for getting a general view of:
• Broken bones or fractures
• Joint issues like arthritis
• Bladder stones
• Checking placement of feed/nasogastric tubes
CT scans, on the other hand, provide incredible 3D detail and are ideal for:
• Complex fractures and surgical planning
• Nasal and sinus disease
• Spinal or neurological issues
• Masses or tumors (especially in the chest, abdomen, or head)
• Middle/inner ear disease
• Cases where X-rays don’t give us enough information
Both tools are invaluable—but CT takes diagnostics to the next level when precision really matters.
