Our Eco Kids (as part of our Eco Committee) came up with two initiatives that they wanted to oversee as projects. Firstly, a class roster was created to tidy up the school and each class completed a litter pick up during one break each term. Each grade was designated an area and the Eco committee members helped and supervised this activity.Secondly, our Eco Committee hosted a market to sell things that would create awareness for the environment in various ways. Every second Wednesday of term 3 and 4, the Eco committee got together to work on their Eco market products held in the 4th Term.
The boys and girls made bee homes out of wood, which will give solitary bees a safe place in the garden to lay their eggs so that they can pollinate the flowers. The eco firelighters were made out of used tea bags and our boys and girls collected and recycled glass jars to fill with these, and liquid paraffine. Strawberry and indigenous sweet pea bushes were also also, which act as food for the pollinators.
A big thank you to all of our Cowan House children (as well as our Eco Committee) for creating a market which was both educational and inline with our Eco School status.
