REKO, a Finnish trading structure, has launched in Hilton. Visit the Church of Ascension car park (Brindy Road) on a Thursday afternoon between 15h15 and 16h15 for a bout of healthy shopping. You can expect to find; plants, seedlings, free-range meat, fruit, vegetables and preserves. I was especially pleased with my unplanned purchase of Duck Egg Garlic Mayonaisse – a healthy version, made with heart.
To be sure you get what you desire JOIN the REKO Hilton Facebook group and order, not all these wonderful farmers and producers bring extra but what you order will be there waiting for you – with your name on it!
Step 1: Join the REKO Hilton Facebook group so you can secure the products you want in time.
Step 2: Be at the Church of Ascension car park on Thursday of the same week between 15h15 and 16h15 with cash to buy your purchase.
Step 3: Take a little extra cash for coffee and any additional bright and beautiful produce that tempts you.
REKO creates a one-on-one relationship between shoppers and small-scale producers to supply fresh, healthy, local produce. The end goal is to sustain the ethical/organic production values of these growers and crafters.
You will enjoy chatting to awesome humans who are all on a mission to produce food that gives our bodies and our planet better health prospects. It was lovely to meet up with Winterskloof locals Karin and Kerry from Graceland Cheese who supply natural dairy products using water harvested from a spring in our valley and milk from pasture-fed cows.
Donna (Pictured above left) from Crossroads Meander is new to the Midlands, having moved from Durban – she gives our area a great big thumbs up – and she will delight your taste buds with her preserves made using organic produce.
Candice-Ann from Phungumangati Organics will happily share knowledge of her farming techniques and Derek is an ethical raw dairy farmer with a warm and friendly smile. (Pictured top row of collage.)
Lunga and Sanele (iThemba Nursey) your instructions on growing red onions were helpful and so detailed that I will have to check in again as they grow.
It will be lovely to see more Hilton residents making use of this valuable weekly market in the middle of Hilton! Next up Thursday 21 February 2019, 15h15 to 16h15.
