11 St Anne’s girls have achieved Gold Certificates for their participation in The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment over the past 10 months.Together they have racked up over 1 000 hours of service and spent numerous hours perfecting a skill such as a musical instrument or Advanced Programme Maths or English.
The award also demands that girls are involved in physical recreation and an adventurous journey; some chose to canoe down the Orange River and others hiked the Drakensberg.
Residential projects included one girl living with a family in France for two months, various community projects and participation in a school’s exchange programme.

The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment is a full member of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which operates in over 140 countries around the world.
The mission is to empower young people between the ages of 14 and 25, by providing a balanced, non-competitive framework for self-development that will increase their self-esteem and enhance their capacity to achieve in whatever context they find themselves: enabling them to become responsible active citizens within their communities.
