On Tuesday, 18 July 2017, Grace College hosted “Celebrate Zulu Day” to coincide with Mandela Day. Mrs Wynn Schoeman, the Head of isiZulu and Culture, invited Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi MP to talk to the Zulu pupils about Zulu. It was a memorable day as the school celebrated the colourful Zulu culture.Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi MP’s response to the invitation to speak was, “I have seen English language festivals and Afrikaans Kultuur Feeste celebrated at many schools. But the idea of celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Zulu isn’t something we do often enough at high school level.”
He found it heart-warming to be asked to speak about his vibrant culture and his language, which is spoken by more than 25% of South Africans.
