MUSIC IN THE HILLS THIS WEEK (Wed 26 October)Details: 7pm, R20 entry, food and soft drinks available, BYOB, visit www.mith.co.za for more details and directions.
Grace Botha - 7pm
This multi-talented vocalist and keyboard player can also hold her own on guitar and drums and has been slightly missing in action from MiTH since giving birth to daughter Mackenzie Joy a little while ago. She has jumped on stage once or twice in typical, informal MiTH fashion since then but we are delighted to welcome Grace back for an “official” slot this week. Her stunning vocals and stirring keys are sure to enchant you – not to be MiTHed!
Evan Oosthuizen - 7:30pm
Evan’s acoustic style has been entertaining audiences for over two years. He plays classic oldies and a few original songs, and has been active in Richmond pubs, weddings and casual braais. Looking to make a break into the music industry, or at the very least, anywhere but Richmond, Evan has played in two different bands aside from his solo gigs. When he isn’t working full time or gigging, he is listening to most music genres to feed his craving for new influences. Sit back or feel free to stand up and dance.
JeffBurnsBridges - 8pm
JeffBurnsBridges plays acoustic pop/rock and consists of John Wood on lead vocals and backing guitar and Rob Pool on lead guitar and backing vocals.
The Occasionals - 9pm
A jazz rock outfit, The Occasionals like to think of themselves as discriminating and voracious sponges, borrowing without conscience from the cream of the past half century’s most memorable musical genres and artists. Occasionally, The Occasionals also serindipitously mix all of this up into a concoction that they claim as their own material. They value improvisation, reworking of timeless, offbeat classics and have a passion for making the familiar disarmingly unfamiliar. Listener discretion advised. The band last sang at MiTH a year ago under a different name (‘Sky Juice’). They have since abandoned dreams of stardom and fame and accepted their standing as a bunch of regular guys with day jobs. The Occasionals really enjoy the music they make together though, and realize it is incumbent upon them to share it with others. They rehearse regularly but perform only occasionally – hence the new, more honest name. Band members are John Soderlund (Lead guitar/ backing vocals), William Reitz (Bass guitar/ backing vocals), Patrick Austin (Drums) and Henry Van Niekerk (Lead vocals, piano accordion).
