New meters are being installed in Hilton to replace all the old meters as part of the pipe replacement project being carried out by the UMgungundlovu District Municipality. The replacement process is as follows:
Where the new reticulation is in place:
• A photograph is taken of the old meter and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is disconnected, the old meter removed and the new meter installed on the new house connection pipe;
• The new meter is photographed and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is reinstated;
• If the resident is at home he is asked to sign the records of the readings;
• The records comprising photographs, address details and readings are handed to the District Municipality office.
• A photograph is taken of the old meter and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is disconnected, the old meter removed and the new meter installed on the new house connection pipe;
• The new meter is photographed and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is reinstated;
• If the resident is at home he is asked to sign the records of the readings;
• The records comprising photographs, address details and readings are handed to the District Municipality office.

• The supply to the house is disconnected, the old meter removed and the new meter installed on the existing house connection;
• The new meter is photographed and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is reinstated;
• If the resident is at home he is asked to sign the records of the readings;
• The records comprising photographs, address and readings are handed to the District Municipality office.
• When the new reticulation in that area is completed, the supply to the house is disconnected and a new connection pipe installed between the new reticulation and the new meter. Then the supply is reinstated.
• A photograph is taken of the old meter and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is disconnected, the old meter removed and the new meter installed on the existing house connection;
• The new meter is photographed and the reading recorded;
• The supply to the house is reinstated;
• If the resident is at home he is asked to sign the records of the readings;
• The records comprising photographs, address and readings are handed to the District Municipality office.
• When the new reticulation in that area is completed, the supply to the house is disconnected and a new connection pipe installed between the new reticulation and the new meter. Then the supply is reinstated.
