We are sharing this information received by members of an estate in Hilton as it might be of interest to you too!“Many of us have to date been affected by the ongoing upgrade of the N3 freeway southbound towards Pietermaritzburg and have become frustrated by the delays. I had a meeting with the Resident Engineer the other day to find out how long this inconvenience is likely to last and would like to share this information with you, so as to better plan your trips to and from Pietermaritzburg from now on until the contract is completed. This disruption is likely to continue until the end of June next year.
The construction upgrade is affectively from the Sanctuary Road bridge up to the Cedara interchange. The relaying of the asphalt surfacing is across two of the three lanes at all times, thereby always restricting traffic to the inside lane in the vicinity of the work. Generally (weather permitting) the contractor will close the two lanes between 9:00 and 17:00 Mondays to Thursdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays. For some reason no lane closure is permitted on Fridays.
At the moment the asphalt surfacing team is working on the southbound carriageway and is programmed to continue in this direction until about the end of October. From the beginning of November till the end of June next year the surfacing team will be working on the northbound carriageway, starting at the Sanctuary Road Bridge and ending at the Cedara interchange”.
