Late yesterday afternoon a child escaped abduction from the grounds of a church in Hilton where she was waiting for her mother to collect her from a regular extramural activity. Thank goodness she did not buy the line, 'Hi I am Samuel and your mother sent me to collect you.' Stepping back abruptly from the car, her reaction surprised the driver of a golf and he sped away. She is safe but this could have been a tragedy. Please empower your children with knowledge so they too know how to respond if confronted with this situation. The code system is simple and works very well.
Simply choose a code word your family only know, such as Dad's nickname or the favourite family dinner. If you have to ask someone else to collect your child you can tell them the code word and teach your children to only accept a lift from someone you know who also supplies the code word. This code word must be changed each time it has been divulged.
