I am a journalist and script-writer, I have always enjoyed a good old murder plot with a stellar cast of characters and the great fun of guessing who did the devious deed. My favourite author growing up was Agatha Christie and then I branched out and consumed numerous other crime authors with passion. But I always felt that the basic plot of a crime story could be interwoven with a comedy for a really great evening's entertainment.
Imagine Colonel Mustard at Sun City with Julius Malema and a box of condoms for those of you who are Cluedo fans OR Mrs Peacock at Midmar Dam with a black mamba. The possibilities are endless ... and so my mind went on a little journey and I concocted some wonderful ideas with new characters and stories.
So what resulted was the – SA style murder mystery evening. My first company was the highly successful SA Murder Mysteries – which put the concept of corporate murder mysteries on the map.
My new company based in Hilton started a year ago. WhodunnitSA is offering new localised scripts which are written especially for the South African market. A word for those who are nervous at the word MURDER. Please relax – our games may make you die laughing – but hey what a way to go!
We generally aim at adults because the plots can be a little risqué but do have themes that are appropriate for school fundraisers. The "Who killed the headmaster" theme goes down a treat.
The idea is to arrive and find out which character you are playing, with small groups we allow you to dress up in our erm ... paraphernalia. Then the fun and games begin. The murder mystery host will guide you through the evening as clues are discovered and accusations are sprung.
No evening is complete without some fun prizes and ... surprises.
It is a great way to have fun celebrating a birthday or anniversary and also an alternative way for corporates to get to know the other side of their colleagues.
I encourage you to be the talk of the town ... be the envy of your social circle ... commit murder and get away with it ... WhodunnitSA - 0824872765 ..... we'll never tell !
