Rob Bircher is an Old Hiltonian (1964-1969). He graduated with a BA degree from Rhodes University and a PGCE from London University. He taught at Falcon College in the then Rhodesia and at Westering High in Port Elizabeth before becoming a Pastor in Graaff-Reinet and finally in Hilton spanning over 30 years. He is married to Pam.
Rob has compiled 13 very different stories spanning over a century from 1872 to the present, of life on the Hilton Estate, introduced the authors and compiled some thought provoking questions to go with each story.
Hilton College will use it in Life Orientation as the true stories convey values and life skills worth emulating e.g. how to cope with loneliness, with grief, with trauma; stories about friendship, determination, bullying, endurance and the importance of having a father figure; stories about appreciation, noticing the beauty of the Hilton Estate and servant leadership; and stories about "causes" and the divide between the Have's and the Have not's.
Hilton College hosted a Book Launch on the 30th January 2013 for Boys of Hilton.
Books cost R 120.00 each and can be ordered from Rob Bircher by emailing Rob on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
