Deon Scheepers, currently the Senior Housemaster at Hilton College and Housemaster at Ellis House for the past 10 years, will become the new Headmaster at Grey College, Bloemfontein, from January 2013. He follows in the footsteps of Mr. Johan Volsteedt who has been the Headmaster at Grey College since 1993. The Hilton College community congratulate Deon Scheepers on his appointment and wish him all the best at one of South Africa's top schools.He is a past pupil of this famous South African school and has matriculated in 1984. After his National Service he studied at the University of Stellenbosch obtaining a B.A.-degree in 1990 and a Higher Diploma in Education in 1991. He started his teaching career at his alma mater and obtained a B.Ed.-degree in 1994 and a M.Ed.-degree in 1996 from Free State University, both cum laude. He taught Afrikaans at Michaelhouse from 1998 to 1999 and accepted a teaching position at Hilton College in April, 2000.
At Hilton College he was closely involved in the pastoral care of the boys in his capacity as Housemaster and Senior Housemaster. He played an integral part in the development of a more modern leadership approach within the school and also served with distinction on the senior management committee of the school. He was fully involved in sports coaching and coached the first squash team as well as the first rugby team. As the Senior Housemaster he was responsible for the co-ordination of all operational issues of the boarding houses on a daily basis. He completed a MBA-degree through the Open University in the United Kingdom, facilitated by UNISA, in 2011. He has a passion for a modern management approach and the implementation of modern leadership styles, how to add value to and maximize the potential of all stakeholders.
Deon Scheepers is married to Hildalize (nee Brummer), an Occupational Therapist at the Ridge School in Pietermaritzburg. The couple have a daughter aged 11 and a son aged 7.
